The two main disadvantages are higher cost and heavier weight. In comparison to conventional bicycles, e-bikes tend to be more expensive due to electric parts and high-end software. Heavier weight can be an inconvenience if you have to lift your e-bike onto a rack, for example.
Is an electric bike faster than a conventional bike?
Yes, an e-bike is faster. Most electric bikes allow you to select the level of assistance you prefer for your pedaling. So, you can always count on the power from the electric motor to reach a higher speed if it is necessary.
Do I need a license to ride an electric bike?
In the United States, classification of electric bikes varies by local state regulations. If the state classifies e-bikes as motorized vehicles, then licensing and registration are needed. Otherwise, you don’t need a license to ride an e-bike. To avoid any problem with the authorities, you should consult the corresponding state requirements to ride an electric bike.
How much does an electric bike cost?
The prices of electric bikes vary greatly. The price depends on the tech specs, quality of components, warranty, and other factors. Budget-level e-bikes cost between $500 and $1,000. However, if you are after a durable and functional e-bike, be ready to pay $1,000-$2,500 for a mid-level e-bike. Higher-end electric bikes can cost as much as $10,000.
